Dear Leadership

I assure you I’m well aware this post won’t make it to the desk of the President, be seen and passed on by the Chief of Staff, or for that matter make it any further than my circle of friends and I’m OK with that.
Dear Mr. President, Dear, Head Guy In Charge, What do you do or have you done when your business/organization is failing? When the morale of your people/your employees is at an all-time low? When complaints far outweigh compliance, PR is trending negatively and the vision and products you’re trying to push just won’t sell? I ask because early in your presidency you equated running the country, Our Nation, to running a business, a fairly large organization. I hope your response isn’t “we fire” the folks that won’t get on board (the pandemic and the economic downturn did that for you.) I hope it isn’t that “we rebrand” (the company has had a long-standing history and was founded on some really poor ideations, not sure your the guy to do that.) Could it be that “we rebuild” (there are so many divisions in our company, forgive me our country (I’m talking about Our Nation if you haven’t caught on by now), what would that process look like, how would the scope and scale of something so massive even begin? Who would project lead and oversee the Education division, who can begin to tackle the Health Care division, and we’re not going to start on the Justice system right, because some think that division is doing fine.)
The people in HR are reporting issues with equity and comparable wages, market research is telling us we’ve got to do something, and the folks down in marketing say we’re taking some real tough hits via social. Mr. President while some of our KPI’s (key performance indicators) would suggest our company will be fine and our loyal customers of the current standards will get us through this storm, I’m telling you, Boss, we’ve got to pause and truly pivot. Chapter 11 is not an option, early retirement maybe…, is it time to step down, step aside, and help usher in the next leader whomever it is to help? Either way, I’m sure your severance package looks good, but as a faithful employee of this great company for as long as I’ve existed, I just wanted to voice my concerns.
Now I turn and ask anyone who has ever been a leader, is a leader or know they have been called to lead, what can we do to not only get the company back on track but moving in a direction of exponential progress?
It is extremely rare that I blend my professional and personal voices. There is a duality and double consciousness that one must have given their chosen profession, but I had to say something and at least start to ask some real questions. #Leadership #leadershipmatters
